Signing Contracts for Phase 1b of Cahir Car park and Phase 3a for Cahir Market House Business Centre

Tipperary County Council is excited to announce that the contract for Phase 1b of the 'Activating Cahir’s Town Centre Regeneration Strategy' was signed last Thursday, June 12, between Tipperary County Council and Rathcabin Tarmacadam.

This Phase 1b construction will include:

• A new car park and transport hub

• 86 car parking spaces

• 3 coach parking spaces

• 2 mini bus parking spaces

• Electric vehicle charging spaces

• Bicycle parking and bike lockers

On the same day, Tipperary County Council were also delighted to sign a contract for Phase 3a – Market House Business Centre Enabling Works with Mulcahy Construction. 

This phase involves the demolition of a rear extension to 25 Old Church St, demolition of outbuildings, opening of pedestrian link to the new car park, construction of a new extension to the rear of 25 Old Church St and all associated structural and ground works.

The Cahir Car Park contract is valued at €1,697,830.85 ex vat, while the Market House Business Centre Enabling Works Contract to €537,226.75 ex vat. Both phases are funded by the Rural Regeneration Development Fund and Tipperary County Council.

Subsequent phases of the "Activating Cahir’s Town Centre Regeneration Strategy" will begin on a staggered basis in the coming months, including:

• Phase 2: Alteration and refurbishment of the historic Granary building, which will house the new and modern Cahir Library.

• Phase 3b: Upgrading and restoration the original façade of the Market House Building to create a cutting-edge Business Centre.

• Phases 4, 5, and 6: Enhancements to the public realm and landscaping at the Square, Castle Street, Church Street, Old Church Street, and St. Mary's Road, transforming the heart of Cahir Town.
